Just Life

Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. (Genesis 5:24 NAS95)

Man has sinned. Cain has killed Able. The life God intended for man appears absent. Eve’s third son, Seth, maybe resonated with the stories Adam told of walking with God in the garden, now long gone and replaced with thistles. Adam’s stories recalled the garden as place of rich communion and uncommon blessing, where intimacy with God was normal. Something must have happened with the stories because during the time of Seth’s son, Enosh, men began to talk with God, maybe they even shared with others how God responds, interacts and answers when they call upon Him. Maybe the stories took root.

Who knows what Enoch was like? The stories of God traveled through time to his life and he took them to heart. God became His life — He walked with God. He did his whole life with God. Then he went missing. No, he was not lost, but he was nowhere to be found. He entered the presence of God. No death, just life. Enoch did what God desires us all to do: depend on His goodness and interact with Him. It was not religion, but relationship. Jesus showed us the same, and He made the way for us all to follow. Talking to God throughout each day makes sense out of life.

For Reflection:

“But know that the LORD has set apart the godly man for Himself; The LORD hears when I call to Him.” (Psalms 4:3 NAS95)

  1. How often in a day does your attention turn to God in conversation?

  1. How do you preview your day with God in prayer? How transparent are you with your emotions in what you share with Him concerning your upcoming day?
