It is written in the prophets, ‘AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT OF GOD.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. (John 6:45 NAS95)
Jesus believed God interacts with even those who have yet to trust Him. People who listen to the prompts of the Father will come to Jesus. God initiates with people far from Him, and the way they respond dictates whether they will come to know Jesus. God actively pursues people, and with believers engaged in communicating their faith to others, those listening to God will trust Jesus.
I am challenged to believe what Jesus believed. He trusted God interacted with multitudes. In fact, He expected it. Do I? The Gospels show that Jesus recognized those positively responding to the Father’s interaction with them. I think of Zaccheus, who climbed a tree in order to see Jesus. Zaccheus showed keen interest and obviously responded in his heart to whatever the Father was doing. Jesus’ attention to His Father’s work naturally drew His focus to the one who wanted to see Him, making it easy to start a conversation with Zaccheus that led to his salvation. God engaged in two conversations at once in that story, one with Zaccheus and one with Jesus. Am I like Jesus, expecting and looking for the Father’s work of drawing multitudes to Himself? I want to trust God for a harvest as Jesus did.
For Reflection:
“Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD” (Psalms 34:11 NAS95)
- In what ways have you learned to recognize the Father’s work in drawing people to Himself?
- Who in your friendship circles do you see the Father drawing to Himself?
