A Few Days in the Tri-City
Gdańsk, Sopot, Gdynia, Hel, and Władysławowo. We visited each of these cities. Hel has a beautiful beach on the Baltic side of the peninsula and we had great fish there too. We enjoyed the aquarium in Gdynia and seeing a WWII battleship. In Sopot, we walked 1 kilometer on the longest pier in Europe and saw the “Crooked House” and believe me, it really is crooked, but it is home to a number of businesses.
Gdańsk came into view for us historically as the first shots of WWII were fired at the entry to the port there over a piece of land known as Westerplatte. This year they celebrated the 70th anniversary of the start of that war. Gdańsk is also the home of the Solidarity movement that culminated with the fall of communism in Central Europe in November of 1989.
We all enjoyed vacation and had a lot of fun learning about this area. Now we can say that we’ve been to Hel and back, and literally mean it!
