Smoleńsk and Katyń

Poland's Tragedy

On Saturday April 10, 2010 Poland awoke to the news that an official government plane flying to commemorate the travesty of Katyń from World War II crashed.  The President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński along with his wife, are among the 96 dead.  No one survived the crash.

The commemoration of Katyń focused on another period in Polish history when members of the Soviet Security Service needlessly murdered 20,000 of Poland’s military leadership along with various members of the intelligentsia and other public servants.

Poland now grieves doubly over events that relate to Katyń, and each loss concerned leaders of their country.  The loss of 1940 is forever linked to this tragedy in 2010.

We would ask that you would join us as we pray and extend out hearts to the people of Poland this time of grief and significant loss.  The news is full of people openly weeping over this devastating event.

As you join us in prayer, we would ask you to make petition our Lord for these specific requests:

  1. Ask God to fill the governmental positions with qualified and competent people who desire to do His will
  2. Ask God to draw the Polish people to Himself through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  3. Pray that this event would not aggravate the already fragile Polish-Russian relationship

Thanks you for joining with us in prayer for Poland, which is a vital and influential country in Europe.  We share with you the confidence that God desires the best for Poland and its healing as a nation.
